CONSTRUCTION

The construction industry is a key market for Plascorp products. The industry consumes steel reinforcing bar, steel mesh, processed steel and a range of accessories.

Our steel reinforcing is used all over Australia in residential, commercial and infrastructure projects. Plascorp manufacturing is approved and certified in accordance with ISO 9001 and products are ACRS accredited. Local manufacturing enables us to have control over our production capabilities ensuring a consistent product to meet our clients’ needs. It also provides the flexibility to customise products and to ensure we can meet the most challenging deadlines for each project.

Unlike many other importers, we carry large stocks in all our distribution centres.

Sustainable building is becoming increasingly important. Plascorp endeavours to responsibly source steel reinforcing primarily from companies that use Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steelmaking where up to 100% scrap is used. Scrap plays a key role in reducing industry emissions and resource consumption.
Approximately 71% of steel is produced by the blast furnace process using coal as a raw material for process and source of energy. Coal is essential in the steel making process so carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions cannot be avoided – but they can be reduced. The steel industry contributes around a quarter of global industrial emissions of CO2 and 6-9% of total global emissions from fossil fuel.

Every tonne of scrap used for steel production avoids the emission of 1.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide, and the consumption of 1.4 tonnes of iron ore, 740 kg of coal and 120 kg of limestone.1
